Blog task5-Affordances and Ipad

With affordances, through readings and videos, I think its main meaning is the immediate perception of the possibilities for action. The main purpose of affordances is to provide strong clues as to how things work. For example, when a mobile phone user gets a new phone, they press the button on the right side of the phone to turn it on. The affordance of this button is that it can be pressed and it is pressed for the purpose of turning the phone on. Affordance is determined by the relationship between the environment and the animal’s ability to behave. And the affordances of things do not change as the needs of the observer change. For example, a Frisbee can be thrown so that a dog can catch it. But it does not become like a ball that can be bounced off the ground just because the dog can catch it. The interaction between affordances and people is inseparable from what people have already learned about affordances. It means that people have already known some rules and ways of using it. When people see a button, for example, they don’t even have to think before they know that the button can be pressed. Some children do not know how to use kitchen utensils because they have not learned about them. But kitchen utensils can still be used by people who know how to use them. Humans will perceive and act in their own environment. Common collective actions can also be performed.Gibson points to the possibility of joint action, i.e. an action performed by two people at the same time, which can be perceived directly.That’s my understanding of affordances.
