Project4-About urbanization

This project is about design challenges from the Arup Momentum for Change project. There are nine themes in total; climate change, integration, demographics, energy, oceans, poverty, urbanization, waste and water. I was more interested in urbanization. So I chose to look at the theme of urbanization.

Firstly, my research has identified these problems with urbanization: heat island effect, ecosystems, visual pollution, habitat fragmentation, eutrophication in bodies of water, data dependency, employment issues, intellectual capital, crime, infrastructure.

Among them, I found : visual pollution is a special phenomenon. Visual pollution is the visible deterioration and negative aesthetic quality of the natural and human-made landscapes around people.

Visual pollution can manifest across levels of analysis, from micro instances that effect the individual to macro issues that impact society as a whole. Instances of visual pollution can take the form of plastic bags stuck in trees, advertisements with contrasting colors and content, which create an over saturation of anthropogenic visual information within a landscape,[ to community-wide impacts of overcrowding, overhead power lines, or congestion. Poor urban planning and irregular built-up environments contrasting with natural spaces that create alienating landscapes.capes.

Here is the video of my work:

Through this I have learned that some parts of visual pollution are unique to urbanisation. Therefore in my final project I will extend my work from this aspect. I plan to design an interactive project. To allow people to participate in urban planning. To create or reduce visual pollution through their participation. From this I will look for some common rules of taxation pollution and ways to change them.
